Reading and Phonics at Home

At Clara Grant, children learn to read through the Read, Write, Inc Phonics Programme. The films and resources on the link below show parents and carers how we teach children to read and write with Read, Write, Inc Phonics. The films will help you and your child practise together at home.

Parents will need to create an account to access the eBooks.

In EYFS and KS1, children bring home a Read, Write, Inc Phonics Book (or ditties, words or sounds practice, depending on your child’s stage of reading). Your child will be able to read this to you as it is fully decodable for their stage of reading. They also bring a free choice book home. This may not be fully decodable and you can read this with or to your child.

In KS2, children bring home two books of free choice. They learn how to choose a book appropriate to their reading stage and they fill in their reading record. You can support your KS2 child by looking at their reading record and asking them about what they are reading. This link gives good advice on what kind of questions to ask your KS2 child.
