A Brighter Future

Admissions

Clara Grant Primary School is a two form entry primary school with an admission number of 60. Our nursery has a total of 47 places – 17 Full-Time and 15 Part-Time morning and afternoon.

Admission Arrangements and Visits To The School

The policy and arrangements for all admissions to the school from 2016 are set out in the Local Authority’s school admissions booklet ‘Starting School in Tower Hamlets’, which can be accessed at here.

A paper copy can be obtained from the Local Authority’s Pupil Admissions Team on tel: 020 7364 5006.

The Nursery and Reception classes admit new pupils in September. Any parent wishing to visit the school should either ring or call in to the school office to arrange this. In-year admissions are organised by the L.A. and occur at half or end of terms.

Absences

All pupils should be at school on time unless they are unwell. Parents are asked to contact the school early in the morning to report an absence. Pupils who arrive late miss valuable lesson time at the start of the school day. The school monitors all attendance closely and has a legal duty to pass on information to the DFES. If you do not contact us regarding an absence we may contact you at home. Should a pupil’s attendance be particularly poor or the absences frequently recurring the Education Social Worker may also visit you at home.

Extended Leave Or Holidays In Term Time

There is a clear link between extended leave and pupil underachievement, so parents are not allowed to take children out of school during term time for a holiday without permission. Any unauthorised absence for a family holiday is likely to result in a fixed penalty fine and your child could lose their school place. As schools in this area are full, you may have to accept a place in another school when you return. If you wish to apply for leave you must fill out a form, which is available from the school office. You must apply well in advance of the dates of intended travel. The Headteacher will consider your application and in exceptional circumstances may give permission.

The Clara Grant School Has Adopted The Fixed Penalty Notice Scheme

Parents can be fined if they take their children out of school on 3 consecutive days leave or more in term time. Parents can receive a Fixed Penalty Notice if your child is persistently absent (unauthorised) and/or persistently late to school. If fines are not paid, this will result in court action by the L.A. which could result in a criminal record.
