Our Building

The school was built in 1905 and is a traditional brick building on three floors with a flat roofed playground. The nursery building is separate from the main school. In 2001 the management of the building was taken over when the school became part of a group PFI contract. At this time some building modifications were made so that the school could have its own kitchen and dining facilities, an ICT suite and additional group rooms.

More recently there has been development of the roof area so that the school can now boast of a dedicated Art/DT room, library and a conference room for important meetings for staff, governors, families and external agencies. The views from these rooms of Canary Wharf are spectacular!

The classrooms at Clara Grant are not huge and although the school now has a platform lift it is not easily accessible for physically disabled pupils. Classrooms for younger children (Reception and Year 1) are on the ground floor, Years 2 & 3 on the second floor with the oldest children, Years 4, 5 and 6 on the third floor.

There are two halls for PE and limited outside space. We are fortunate to have an all-weather pitch area for ball skills.

We also have a special outdoor science investigations area with a pond where children are able to go under supervision to investigate nature and minibeasts.
